Your Vehicle Affects Your Premium

[ 0 ] February 13, 2012
Campbell & Boyd InsuranceYou might want a sports car or a fancy SUV, but your insurance company may charge you more to protect you while driving it.

Insurance premiums are based partly on the price of the vehicle, which affects the replacement cost if it is stolen or “totaled” in an accident. How expensive the vehicle is to repair — including parts and labor — can also affect the cost.

In addition, surcharges may apply to vehicles that are frequently stolen or involved in accidents.

According to HLDI, the lowest injury claims are from large vehicles — cars, pickup trucks, and sport-utility vehicles. Small 2- and 4-door cars have the highest injury claims. Small cars also are among the highest in collision costs, along with sports cars.

If you have your heart set on a sporty vehicle, you’ll probably pay dearly. Insuring a high-performance car can easily cost two or three times the insurance amount for an ordinary model. Sport-utility vehicles often have higher Insurance rates than mid- and full-size cars, but some SUV models are relatively cheap to insure. They are among the most frequently stolen vehicles, and they are more expensive than most cars.

Auto Insurance Laws For Vermont

[ 0 ] February 3, 2012
Campbell & BoydBefore registering a vehicle, you must present proof of minimum liability coverage in the amount of $25,000 for death or injury of one person, $50,000 for death or injury of two or more persons, and $10,000 for property damage. Vermont drivers also have the option to provide evidence of self-insurance in the amount of $115,000.00, which must be filed with the commissioner of motor vehicles.

All Vermont drivers must carry proof of insurance at all times. Failure to provide proof of coverage could result in tickets, you could be fined $100, and you will accumulate two points on your driving record. You will also have to file proof of financial responsibility with the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles.

If you find you are not in ordinance with the Vermont Auto Insurance laws Campbell-Boyd Insurance can help you with that, and all of your auto insurance needs!

AUTO THEFT

[ 0 ] December 2, 2011

Campbell & BoydKNOW THE FACTS TO HELP AVOID BEING A VICTIM OF AUTO THEFT

According to the FBI’s National Crime Information Center, one vehicle is stolen about every 25.5 seconds in the U.S., which amounts to a total of 1,235,226 stolen U.S. vehicles and upwards of 7.6 billion dollars in vehicle losses. Despite the tremendous expense involved when a car is stolen, many consumers still aren’t preparing in advance to handle the possibility of a vehicle theft. A number of common misconceptions have contributed to consumers adopting a defeatist attitude about vehicle theft. There are a number of vehicle owners that feel it’s all but impossible to prevent becoming a victim of vehicle theft, even when protective methods like anti-theft devices are used. This type of defeatist attitude can have serious and unnecessary consequences for vehicle owners.

The Wiser Drivers Wise Up project was started by the Council of Better Business Bureaus, the Insurance Information Institute, and The National Insurance Crime Bureau to dispel the defeatist attitude and teach drivers how to handle their vehicle being stolen. The program includes five auto theft myths that can actually leave a vehicle owner more vulnerable to having their vehicle stolen:

  • Older vehicles aren’t targeted by thieves.
  • The majority of vehicle thefts occur in unprotected areas.
  • Anti-theft devices aren’t hard to install.
  • The police usually find stolen vehicles.
  • Insurance companies always provide victims of vehicle theft with a rental car.

In closing, vehicle owners shouldn’t make the costly mistake of assuming vehicle theft is an inevitable occurrence. It’s also advisable to do an annual review of your Personal Auto Insurance policy for mandatory coverages, needed coverages, and coverage features like rentals and roadside assistance.

Your Vehicle Affects Your Premium

[ 0 ] September 12, 2011

Campbell & BoydYou might want a sports car or a fancy SUV, but your insurance company may charge you more to protect you while driving it.

However, insurance companies set rates based on their own experience. If Company A has more collision and theft claims for a particular vehicle than Company B, then A will charge more for the same coverage. It all boils down to a company’s actual experience with a particular vehicle or category of drivers.

Campbell & Boyd Insurance Agency provides Auto Insurance.

BRATTLEBORO – A chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon!

[ 0 ] August 19, 2011

Campbell and Boyd Insurance ServicesPartly sunny. A chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Highs in the mid 80s. Southwest winds around 5 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.

Driving in the rain can be a scary thing, and in the night, it is even worse. It is difficult to see out of the window, and the other car’s lights seems to make it worse. Especially when you begin to hydroplane!

Here are some tips to avoid getting into an accident and keeping your Auto Insurance Rates down while it’s raining.

  1. Drive at or below the speed limit to the extent that you are comfortable with, and can see far enough in front of you to appropriately make driving decisions.
  2. Be aware that the maximum speed at which you can drive is DIRECTLY related to your tires. Be sure to know what their condition is in. Radial tires have better traction than the old bias ply polyester tires, but even they lose their ability to grip wet pavement and channel water out as the tread wears out.
  3. Be aware of hydroplaning. This is where your vehicle travels on top of the water and has NO or very little contact with the ground. Your traction is reduced significantly. To safely get out of a hydroplaning situation let off the gas and steer straight or slightly in the direction you must go. Do not make sudden motions and remain calm.

Keep your Family safe and your Auto Insurance claims down. Take precautions to stay safe on the road.
